Kayla Yvonne Laws is a first-year M.A. student in the Department of English at The George Washington University and a consortium student at Georgetown University. Her research explores African American literature, African American history and diaspora studies, and Black Women’s Feminism.  A fourth-generation native of Washington, D.C., she earned her B.A. in Honors English and Africana Studies, with a minor in Journalism and Mass Communications, from The George Washington University in 2024. Kayla held many leadership positions at GW to include serving as president of the GW Chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists and the NAACP, board member of the GW Hatchet newspaper and leadership positons with GW's Honey W Nashman Center.
