Anissa Tanksley

Prevention Specialist, GW's Office of Advocacy and Support


Anissa Tanksley is a dedicated victim advocate and violence prevention professional with extensive experience supporting survivors of violence and abuse, as well as advancing trauma-informed systems change. She currently serves as the Prevention Specialist at The George Washington University’s Office of Advocacy & Support (OAS), where she designs and implements intersectional prevention strategies addressing sexual violence, domestic violence, intimate partner violence (IPV), and stalking. 

Prior to her role at OAS, Anissa worked as a forensic interviewer at multiple Children’s Advocacy Centers in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maine. In these positions, she collaborated closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, child welfare systems and multidisciplinary teams, in addition to providing expert testimony in criminal trials on child maltreatment, trauma, and memory. Anissa earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and holds a B.A. in Russian from Bowdoin College.
